- Jumpstart Your Johnnies Journey
Jumpstart Your Johnnies Journey is a 3–4-day program that happens in August to allow students to begin a smooth transition into their college experience.

Working with first-year students year after year, we receive a lot of questions:
How am I going to make friends?
What should I be doing with all this free time?
What if the material feels too hard?
Will I have a Guidance Counselor?
What if I don't like my major?
Jumpstart your Johnnies Journey will help students find answers to some of these questions, connect with peers and staff, and become familiar with campus.
Program Goals
- to prepare participants for college-level work in the areas of reading and writing
- to enhance participants' problem-solving, critical thinking, and study skills
- to familiarize and connect participants with available campus resources
- to provide program participants with academic, personal, and career advisement
- to engage program participants in activities that cultivate a sense of belonging
Other Program Perks
- A program mixer where first-year students can connect!
- A fun trip into Manhattan with the group at the end of August to wrap up the experience!
- Potential to earn a $250 Engagement Grant, which would be applied to tuition costs.
Keynote Guest: Dr. Joan Ball - "What Now?"
Dr. Joan Ball is a Professor of Marketing and Founder of the WOMB Service Design Lab, a transition services consultancy based in New York. Joan's work has a strong focus on transitions, creativity, resilience and curiosity, and how they create conditions for social impact and human wellbeing.
Joan will engage students in various activities that help them explore the important and particular transition between high school and college so that they have a better understanding of how to answer the ubiquitous question many of us ask ourselves in times of change: "What Now?".
