He specializes in insurance market and country analysis, insurer financial and operational analysis, insurance regulation, human capital issues in insurance markets as well as emerging risk management. Prior to joining the GSRM, he worked, among others, as an educator with Georgia State University (US) and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), as an insurance regulator with the Monetary Authority of Singapore and as an industry specialist with the Institutes (US). He helped to establish the Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association (APRIA) in 1997, found the World Risk and Insurance Economics Congress (WRIEC) in 2005, and build the Research Network (a consortium of 20+ research centers in risk and insurance worldwide) of the International Insurance Society. He has built working relationships with several regional and global institutions, including the OECD, the Geneva Association, Singapore College of Insurance, Financial Accreditation Agency (Malaysia), Waseda University Insurance Research (Japan), Networks Financial Institute (US), Shanghai Forum and China International Risk Forum. He was listed as a Fulbright Insurance Specialist.
Professor Kwon earned his MBA from the College of Insurance (now the GSRM) and Ph.D. from Georgia State University. He holds a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.
