Assistant ProfessorAssociate Professor
Dr. Jie Xu is a tenured Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Homeland Security at St. John’s University. She holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University and an M.S. in Statistics and Biostatistics from Rutgers University–New Brunswick.At St John's University, Dr. Xu served as the Program Director for two programs: the Criminal Justice Undergraduate Program and the Graduate Program in Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Leadership. During her tenure as program director, the Graduate Program in Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Leadership achieved a national ranking of 30th by U.S. News.
Dr. Xu’s research published in prominent journals, including Criminology and Public Policy, Journal of Quantitative Criminology, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Journal of Experimental Criminology, and Security Journal. She has also received several grants. Her research primarily focuses on gun violence, criminal intelligence, predictive policing, quantitative analysis, and artificial intelligence in criminal justice and homeland security.
Dr. Xu has mentored over twenty doctoral students, offering guidance and support in their research and professional development. In the classroom, Dr. Xu teaches a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including introduction to research methods, statistical analysis, advanced research methods, policy formation and analysis, theories of crime, American correctional systems, and the American judicial systems.
