While a faculty member, Dr. Ivan mentored several doctoral dissertations and master's theses on topics related to sport for social and economic development initiatives, intersection of sport and politics under the Cold War, doping and its affect on health at elite and amateur level. Dr. Ivan secured several research grants from domestic and international funding agencies and also served as Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Sport Research in 2018-2019.
Dr. Ivan is an active member of the International Sport Sociology Association, the Association for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies, and the International Sport for Development and Peace Association. Her research interests are in the areas of creativity and innovation in sport and fitness, the role and place of artificial intelligence in the sport-health-media complex, and the international and comparative analysis of women sports in the late 20th century. In 2010, she was named Research Fellow of the Center for Study Sport in Society, founded by Dr. Richard Lapchick, at Northeastern University.
