The School of Education held its annual Maureen A. Hartigan Forum—an event that gives student teachers an opportunity to network with alumni and prepare for future job interviews—on March 28 in the D’Angelo Center Ballroom on the Queens, NY, campus.
“The Hartigan Forum tried something different this year,” explained James D. Wolfinger, Ph.D, Dean, The School of Education. “Rather than a panel discussion of superintendents speaking to student teachers about their hiring process, current student teachers networked with the participating schools and districts.”
A total of 13 schools and districts from both New York City and Long Island, including public, private, and charter participated. Student teachers, grouped according to their certification, were encouraged to speak with representatives from the schools and districts.
“This new format was well received by both the school representative and students,” Dean Wolfinger said. “Many representatives indicated they would be happy to participate in future events, and students said they gained a wealth of knowledge.”
Approximately 80 student teachers/interns were in attendance, as well as members of the Dean’s Advisory Board, representatives from University Career Services, University administrators, faculty and staff from The School of Education.
