
















































































The School of Education (TSOE) at St. John’s University proudly hosted a Future and Emerging Educator event on the Queens, NY, campus designed to inspire and support the next generation of educators in New York State. The February 22 event offered attendees a dynamic and engaging opportunity to explore the School’s diverse programs and pathways to a meaningful and impactful career in education.
“Events like these showcase our programs and commitment to our New York communities,” said James D. Wolfinger, Ph.D., Dean, The School of Education. “It’s so gratifying to see prospective students and their families come here to learn more about what St. John’s has to offer.”
High school students eager to discover the rewarding journey of becoming an educator, as well as current educators and individuals interested in the School’s graduate programs, were in attendance. Guests explored the many benefits of majoring in education and how St. John’s University prepares its students to become leaders in the field.
“It is a creative approach to program recruitment and building stronger connections with local partner schools,” explained Dr. Wolfinger. “The School looks forward to building on the success of this inaugural event and continuing to inspire future educators committed to making a lasting difference in their communities.”
The day began with an inspiring keynote address by Nadia Giannopoulos,‘08MEd, Executive Director of the Marie Pense Center, an education management company that provides intervention services to children in their home and community settings. She shared her journey in education, emphasizing the profound professional opportunities the field offers.
Attendees engaged in a variety of interactive sessions, including mock classroom experiences. Faculty meet-and-greet sessions, which were highly appreciated by guests, provided opportunities for insightful conversations. Informative panel discussions offered guidance on navigating the education field.
"The excitement and passion for the field of education was palpable among the presenters and attendees alike. The event provided a unique opportunity for future educators to learn about the challenges and rewards of careers in educations as well as the vast array of degree programs and services offered by the School of Education at St. John's University. It was great to see a new generation of future educators inspired and ready to accept the torch of leadership in the field, " said Fino Celano,'09Ed.D., Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Administrative and Instructional Leadership.
A session that highlighted the impactful work of the Institute for Catholic Schools and Catholic School Teacher Scholarship opportunities was led by Robert DiNardo, the institute’s director. Additionally, informational tables provided by faculty served as valuable resources for students and parents seeking personalized guidance.
One of the event’s highlights was the breakout session led by students in The School of Education Future Educators Club. They shared their inspiring stories and experiences as education majors at St. John’s, providing high school attendees with firsthand insights into the vibrant community and academic life within The School of Education.
“The inaugural Future and Emerging Educator event was an outstanding success and a truly memorable experience,” said Katherine C. Aquino, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Innovation and Partnerships and Assistant Professor, Department of Administrative and Instructional Leadership, The School of Education. “I am deeply grateful to our dedicated faculty and the SOE community members whose support made this event possible. It provided a wonderful opportunity for The School of Education to come together, recruit new students, and showcase the incredible programs and opportunities we have to offer. This event marks the beginning of an exciting tradition of inspiring and empowering the next generation of educators.”
