Traveling from both near and far, St. John’s University alumni, their families, and friends returned to alma mater on May 30 through June 2 for the University’s largest alumni gathering—the fourth annual Grand Alumni Homecoming Weekend (GAHW).First held in 2016, the event’s annual attendance continues to grow; this year, more than 1,900 registrations were received. Last year, in response to its growing popularity, GAHW expanded from two days to four, with a wide range of activities added to an already busy weekend.GAHW featured more than 20 events this year, including Saturday morning’s St. John’s 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run, the Red Storm Alumni Festival, Brunch with the President, and the Grand Alumni Signature Celebration.The Red Storm Alumni Festival turned Taffner Field House into a carnival-like atmosphere, complete with a wide array of inflatable rides for the next generation of Johnnies, game booths with prizes, crafts, caricature artists, music, and food.St. John’s University’s eSports team won the ROG x META collegiate jersey design competition, which included more than 20 colleges and universities from across the United States. Members of the program presented a team jersey with the winning logo to Dr. Gempesaw.The St. John’s University Office of Marketing and Communications recently garnered a 2019 Telly Award for the promotional video, “We Are New York’s Team,” a 30-second television commercial that aired throughout the 2018–19 Men’s Basketball season during St. John’s broadcasts of BIG EAST games.More than 100 alumni and friends of the University visited the Spring Lake, NJ, home of Kevin Reed ’75C and his wife, JoAnn, on Saturday, July 20, for the second annual New Jersey Alumni Barbeque.More than 300 members of the St. John’s community visited Carnesecca Arena on August 6 for Taste of St. John’s, a new event which featured a wide range of foods from both new and long-established restaurants throughout the New York metropolitan area. Guests also had the opportunity to chat with Mike Cragg, Director of Athletics, and Mike Anderson, the new Men’s Basketball Head Coach.Rev. John J.
