On Saturday, April 29th, 2023, the Division of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Science in The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies partnered with Hack The Box to host a Capture the Flag competition for high school students. The event was sponsored by The Sanford Family. Over 60 students from local high schools competed in 13 challenges, across 7 categories. The winning team was from John F. Kennedy High School in the Bellemore/Merrick school district; they finished the most challenges, the fastest. Linda S. Sanford, '74Ed, '98HON, St. John's Board of Trustees Emerita, gave the opening remarks and encouraged students "to learn a lot because cybersecurity is a field that is open to many opportunities, and it is important to learn how to deploy technology safely."
