IISR goes to ESL One eSports Counter Strike World Championship held at the Barclays Center
One of the major applications of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Sport Research (IISR) is the exploration of eSports as a field of academic study and engagement. Currently the institute is funding research on eSport nutrition and host think tanks that will help us identify areas of potential investment. Our research however, would not be complete without experiencing an eSports tournament, live.

IISR’s Women in STEM and Sport Project
A major focus of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Sport Research (IISR) is the promotion of Women in sports science and sports management. The IISR seeks to lend its hand in driving research on and creating opportunities for women and allies of female empowerment. The institute has recently taken on an initiative called “Women in STEM and Sport,” where it exposes high school girls that have a passion for sports to different STEM (Science, Technology, engineering and mathematics courses) careers.

Meet and Greet with new Fashion Professor is a big hit!
On Dec. 6, 2018, students interested in fashion at both the Queens and Staten Island Campuses “met together” using technology to host a “Meet and Greet” for new Fashion Professor Richard Bigger.
Students Gain Hands-On Cybersecurity Experience in Competition
Over the weekend a team of CPS students competed in the Department of Energy’s annual Cyber Defense Competition. The competitors consisted of 68 universities across 7 national laboratories.

Ankush Karnik is one of the analysts who makes sense of large data sets by bridging gap between computer scientists and operational analysts. A project manager at Volanno, a woman-owned small business consulting firm based in Washington DC, he counts over fifteen years of experience in the ground transportation industry (at New Jersey Transit), finance (at Citibank) and has leveraged his skills in different industry sectors and is now working closely with the FAA to help derive actionable insights from aviation data.
Dr. Basilio Monteiro and Students win Best Paper Award at ICSB's Italy Conference
The International Council for Small Business (ICSB) held The Global Entrepreneurhsip Conference on October 4th and 5th, 2018 at Salerno University in Italy. Dr. Basilio Monteiro, Associate Professor in the Mass Communication Division, and three graduate students; Hope DeVito, Monica Mhatre, and Helena D. Peterson, presented their paper: Insidious Paradox of Sustainable Development: Case Studies of Goa (India) and Luozi (Congo)/Hallsberg (Sweden).
