Anthony F. Markel Announced As 2016 Insurance Leader Of The Year
Anthony F. Markel, Vice Chairman of the Board, Markel Corporation will be honored by The Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University as the School of Risk Management’s “2016 Insurance Leader of the Year” at its 22nd annual dinner.
Center for Insurance Regulation Hosts its 5th Annual Conference
The Center for the Study of Insurance Regulation (CSIR) of the School of Risk Management (SRM) hosted its fifth annual conference on October 20, 2016 at the Manhattan campus.
SRM Class Of 2016 Graduates Enjoy Job Market Success
Ninety-five School of Risk Management students completed their degrees this year, including sixty-five who earned undergraduate degrees and thirty who received graduate degrees. The Ellen Thrower Center for Apprenticeship and Career Services reported exceptionally high placement rates for the Class of 2016: undergraduate actuarial science (94%), undergraduate Risk Management & Insurance (95%), and graduate combined (100%). Companies such as AIG, Aon, Aspen, Chubb, CNA, Ironshore, Marsh, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Starr, Swiss Re, and Travelers hired graduates with risk management and insurance majors, actuarial science majors also obtained positions with investment banks. For risk management and insurance undergraduate majors the median salary for the class was $60,000. For those studying actuarial science it was $64,000.
Stephen Mildenhall, Ph. D. Joins SRM Faculty
Stephen Mildenhall joined the School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science as a member of the research faculty in August. Dr. Mildenhall was previously the Global CEO of Analytics for Aon plc, based in Singapore, and head of Aon Benfield Analytics. Prior to joining Aon, he worked at Kemper Insurance and CNA Insurance.

Beta Alpha Psi Chapter Wins Two National Awards
Students from Beta Alpha Psi, the accounting and finance honor society, from the Staten Island campus won two Best Practices awards at the National Conference in Baltimore, MD on August 6, 2016. One team won first place in the “Good or Great” competition, while the second team won third place in the “Alignment of Officer Activities” competition. The competition is sponsored by Deloitte.
