Syed Ahmad Chan Bukhari, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Division of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Science, and Program Coordinator of both the undergraduate and graduate programs in Healthcare Informatics in The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies (CCPS), recently received a grant from the US National Science Foundation (NSF)’s Innovation Corps (I-Corps) program.

“I am honored to receive the NSF grant for our project, ‘I-Corps: Trustworthy Medical Code Recommendations’,” said Dr. Bukhari. “We are combining deep learning and knowledge graphs to revolutionize computer-assisted coding, which will improve accuracy and efficiency in health care. We are excited about the possibilities this work holds for the industry.”

The project is based on the development of an innovative technology that combines deep learning techniques with symbolic, artificially intelligent, specific knowledge graphs to improve the explainability of computer-assisted coding models. It is intended to be employed as a guidance tool for coding.

“We are very proud of Dr. Bukhari’s accomplishment,” said Luca Iandoli, Ph.D., Dean, The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies, and Professor, Division of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Science. “CCPS continues to strive to be a launchpad for entrepreneurs and innovators.”
