The BIG EAST has named 224 St. John's student-athletes to the 2020-21 BIG EAST All-Academic Team, the league office announced Tuesday.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the conference's 11 member schools and affiliate institutions. In order to be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum 3.00 grade point average, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester credits or 27 quarter credits in the preceding year, not including remedial courses.
The men's lacrosse team led all Red Storm programs with 38 honorees to the conference's All-Academic Team. The women's track & field & cross country team followed closely behind with 34 named to the list. Men's soccer placed 32 on the student-athletes on the all-academic team while women's soccer had 24, softball had 22 and baseball and volleyball had 14 apiece.
Nine women's tennis players and eight men's basketball and tennis players achieved the mark. Rounding out the Red Storm honorees, women's golf and women's basketball each had seven while men's golf team contributed six honorees.

St. John’s University mourns the passing of Luigi “Lou” P. Carnesecca ’50C, ’60GEd, ’00HON, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, November 30. Coach Carnesecca was 99 years old and just five weeks shy of his 100th birthday.
