Ireland Focus of St. John’s Alumni Tour

October 31, 2019

Alumni and friends recently savored the history and charm of Ireland on a tour hosted by the St. John’s University Alumni Travel Program.

A total of 13 travelers took part in the late September tour, which included a visit with students and staff at St. John’s location in Limerick, which is a collaboration with Mary Immaculate College. The vibrant Catholic college sits on 25 acres, with a 500-seat theater, student union, cafeteria, and a sports and recreation complex.

The group enjoyed Irish cuisine and four-star hotel accommodations as they took in sights that included the Cliffs of Moher, Kylemore Abbey Church, Blarney Castle, Dromoland Castle, and the famed Guinness Storehouse. Adare, Dublin, Galway, Kinsale, and Middleton were just some of the cities that extended a warm Irish welcome during the nine-day tour, which the Alumni Travel Program arranged in partnership with Miracolo Tours.

“This was a fabulous trip with wonderful alumni,” said Sandra M. Guiducci, Esq. ’79C, ’82L.

“It was exciting to meet current St. John’s University students at the school’s Limerick location. This was an amazing Irish holiday, in every way.”

“I felt like I made new friends every day of the tour, and we all want to know when the next trip and location will be offered by the Alumni Travel Program,” said A. Andrea Licari, D.P.S., ’72CBA, ’73MBA, Professor of Administration and Economics, The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies.

Sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations, the Alumni Travel Program is in its second year. The inaugural alumni trip was made to Rome, Italy.

The program is planning a journey to Paris, France, in Fall 2020, according to Mark A. Andrews, Director, Office of Alumni Relations. “Paris obviously is the perfect location to visit in 2020, coinciding with St. John’s University’s 150th anniversary,” Mr. Andrews said.

“Through the Alumni Travel Program, St. John’s offers an opportunity to travel with every attention to detail covered—and with unique experiences in marvelous places to discover with fellow alumni,” he added.
