The Department of Pharmacy Administration and Public Health continued to make contributions in scholarship, teaching, and service activities during the Spring 2019 semester. A Master of Healthcare Administration (M.H.A.) program has been developed in collaboration with The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies. This proposed M.H.A. program will offer students an opportunity to specialize in Health Services Management or Health Information Management.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, health administration-related occupations are projected to enjoy robust job growth; the job outlook for medical and health services managers for 2016 to 2026 is 20 percent.
The College and University Graduate Council have approved this program. In the upcoming year, the proposed M.H.A. program will seek approval from the University's Board of Trustees and New York State Education Department.
Faculty, students, and alumni actively participated at the annual conferences organized by the Society for Applied Anthropology, AMCP, APhA, and ISPOR. Four posters were selected as an ISPOR 2019 Research Presentation Award finalist, and one earned the best student poster award.
The M.P.H. program graduated its fifth cohort of students, with four students receiving their M.P.H. degree in the Community Health track and one receiving a certificate of excellence. The program also broadened its network with public health agencies with a focus on global health to secure fieldwork sites for M.P.H. students in the Global Health track.
