Stephen J. Mildenhall, FCAS, CSPA, CERA assistant professor of risk management and insurance, and director of insurance data analytics, at the School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science at The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, has been elected to the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) Board of Directors for a three-year term beginning in November 2018. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.
Mildenhall began his career at CNA in 1992 and held positions there as the specialty lines actuary with CNA Re Facultative and as a pricing and special projects actuary with CNA Personal Lines. Prior to joining St. John’s University in 2016, he was Global CEO of Analytics for AON plc, based in Singapore, and head of Aon Benfield Analytics. He helped found and establish Aon’s Singapore Center for Innovation and Analytics. Mildenhall is Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst and a Certified Specialist in Predictive Analytics (CSPA).
Mildenhall has been a member of the CAS for over 24 years, earning his Associateship in 1994 and his Fellowship in 1995. He has served on many CAS committees, including the Theory of Risk Committee (including as chairperson from 2008-2010), the CAS Examination Committee and the Variance Editorial Board. Mildenhall is also a frequent contributor to the Actuarial Review’s “Explorations” column and has published several papers in the CAS E-Forum. In addition, he volunteers with The CAS Institute (iCAS), serving on iCAS Leadership Advisory Council and as an iCAS Predictive Analytics Subject Matter Expert.

Mildenhall joined the Tobin faculty in 2017. He teaches actuarial science and brings a quarter century of insurance industry experience to St. John’s. He was previously Global CEO of Analytics for Aon plc, based in Singapore, and also head of Aon Benfield Analytics.
Mildenhall earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Warwick and his master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Chicago.
Elected with Mildenhall to serve on the CAS Board of Directors are: A. David Cummings, chief P&C actuary and head of analytics at USAA; Julia Stenberg, assistant vice president & actuary, workers compensation and large casualty at CNA Insurance; and Melissa Tomita, FCAS, MAAA, CPCU, financial director at Nationwide Insurance.
