The Peter J. Tobin’s College of Business’s 12th Annual Global Business Research Symposium, The Quest for Stability, was hosted by the Business School of the University College of Cork (Ireland) on July 26-28, 2017.
The main purpose of this year's Symposium was to promote discussion among academicians and practitioners from various business disciplines through academic paper presentations and panel sessions. This year the issues of sustainability, internal audit, fairness, and consumer behavior dominated the paper presentations, while the panel sessions focused on risk, accounting education, academic teaching and ended with an interactive panel titled, “Meet the Editors.” The Conference was attended by 61 active participants and 20 guests.
The Global Business Research Symposium originated from the Financial Services Institute at Tobin College to provide an educational and research facility dedicated to the advancement of business and financial knowledge through research in a global setting. The annual symposia were started in 2006 by the late Donald R. Pitti, fomer CEO of J.W. Seligman & Co., and Igor Tomic, Ph.D., Professor of Economics at the Tobin College of Business. Hilmi H. Elifoglu, Ph.D., Professor of Accountancy, and Ivan Abel, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Marketing, both of the Tobin College of Business, joined the executive committee soon afterwards and continue to work with constant dedication.
GBRS distinguishes itself from many conferences in a number of ways:
- All members who serve on the GBRS Board have provided significant support to the organization; there are no board members who are there in name only;
- The Best Paper Committee does not consist of a small insider group, but rather of over 20 senior researchers from many countries selected from the membership; and
- The conference is judged to be successful if attending members are satisfied with constrictive comments and advice they receive, and if members engage in joint works.
The following awards were bestowed at the conclusion of the conference:
