Demonstrating a commitment to ending pancreatic cancer, a team from the Peter J. Tobin College of Business raised more than $2,700 in the 2017 New York City Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk, sponsored by the Lustgarten Foundation, on April 2.
The team from TCB’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the business school national honors society, continues to see the donations come in, said Associate Professor of Accounting and Taxation Tim Coville, the faculty advisor.
“These BGS students are a great group of young people,” said Coville. “Making this effort more poignant is the fact that each member of the team has had friends or family touched by cancer in one way or another.”
Coville is particularly proud that that the BGS chapter met its recruitment goal of six team members. In addition to Coville, the team consists of students Kenneth Bertosen, Frank Cardaci, Samantha Lydard, Yougnand Paul and Nicholas Suslak.
Fundraising is ongoing and anyone wishing to support the effort may do so by going to http://2017NYCWalk.kintera.org/betagammasigmaofsju.
Pancreatic cancer accounts for about three percent of all cancers in the U.S. and about seven percent of all cancer deaths, according to the American Cancer Society. That makes it the fourth leading cause of all cancer deaths, claims the Lustgarten Foundation, which calls itself the largest private supporter of pancreatic cancer research.
