For the second straight year, Peter J. Tobin College of Business accounting students from Staten Island captured a first place finish in the national financial information honor society’s Atlantic Coast Regional Competition. The team from the Kappa Zeta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi won the “Community Outreach” section of the “Best Practices” category of this year’s Competition, which was held in Pittsburgh on Mar. 23-25.
The victory allows the team to advance to the society’s National Competition in Anaheim, Calif., in August.
This year’s team has a tough act to follow. Last year’s team, which notched two first place finishes at the Regional Competition in Towson, Md., also went on to the National Competition in Baltimore, where it topped the “Good or Great!” section of the “Best Practices” category. That finish gave the team the distinction of being the first one from St. John’s to achieve a national victory.
“These students have distinguished themselves in these competitions, making Tobin College and Staten Island very proud,” said Professor of Accounting and Taxation Benjamin Silliman, the chapter’s faculty advisor and mentor.
