There’s a unique feeling of familiarity that exists among alumni who attended St. John’s Schermerhorn Street campus in downtown Brooklyn. The fact that the campus was primarily located in a single building contributed to the sense of closeness among students, a bond which is still apparent when alumni from that historic location come together.
And coming together is something they look forward to every year. This year’s gathering was held at O’Lunney’s Times Square Pub, an authentic Celtic pub in the heart of New York’s exciting Times Square.
“Schermerhorn Street alumni are very proud of their St. John’s roots,” remarked Rasheed Muse, Assistant Director, Office of Alumni Relations, “and that was on full display at the recent Schermerhorn Street Alumni Reception. The pride that they all displayed was evident as they reminisced about what it was like when they were students. It was great to hear the alumni speaking with excitement about the possibility of getting together for pre-game basketball receptions and other events that will help them celebrate their rich history.”
The Schermerhorn Street campus welcomed its first students in 1929, and remained a vibrant educational center until it closed in 1972. The thousands of young men and women who first became part of the St. John’s family through the doors of the University’s vertical campus have gone on to distinguish themselves as leaders in nearly every career and profession.
