Test of Emergency Notifications System

To ensure that all St. John’s University emergency notification systems operate properly, it is necessary that we conduct periodic tests. On Monday, September 27, 2021, the Department of Public Safety will perform a test of its text and voice messaging capabilities from 2 to 3 p.m. 

All members of the University community who sign up to receive these emergency messages should receive a test message. Those who do not have text messaging included in their service contracts should receive the voice message. Those who register a landline telephone number will receive the voice message only.

The message clearly states that this is only a test. No action is required of recipients unless they do not receive the message in the format(s) allowed by their service contract. If you are registered and do not receive the test message in the correct format, or do not receive it at all, please call 718-674-8697.  

The safety of everyone on our campuses remains our highest priority. I would like to remind you that you can sign up for emergency voice and text messaging by logging on to signon.stjohns.edu   Choose the UIS tab and update your notification information. 

Also, as members of the St. John’s University community, we ask that you notify the Department of Public Safety of any situation or incident on campus that involves a significant emergency or dangerous situation that may involve an immediate or ongoing threat to the health and safety of students and/or employees on campus.

Public Safety is excited to introduce the community to our new mobile safety app, LiveSafe. LiveSafe allows app users to report tips to Public Safety, virtually escort friends in real-time on a map, place emergency calls, and access other safety resources. It is free for all University members.
