- Technology Support for Campus Events
In response to questions the Office of Information Technology (IT) receives, we would like to provide the St. John’s University community with information regarding technical support for on-campus events throughout the academic year.
For the majority of spaces on campus, standard conferencing technology is available in the room. Virtual meeting attendance can be initiated through Webex or Microsoft Teams from the desktop PC in the room. Meeting organizers log in to their accounts from the PC through signon.stjohns.edu and sign in as they would from their desk.
There are two rooms in the D’Angelo Center—rooms 128 and 416 (Ballroom)—where any events scheduled automatically have IT support technicians assigned for setup (unless the meeting organizer specifically indicates that it is not required). It is important to note that neither of these rooms has a camera, so videoconferencing is not supported.
Events in other locations are considered supported by the meeting organizer and IT resources are not assigned. To assist with the support of these spaces, the Office of Information Technology is available to provide training to all employees. Appointments are required. When selecting your appointment type, please select Pre-Event Equipment Training-In-Person-Queens Campus.
If you use a classroom for an event and have an issue, please contact Classroom Support at 718-990-5845 (x5845) from the phone in the room. This information is also posted on every podium. Support is dispatched as soon as possible on a first-come, first-serve basis. For other non classroom spaces, please contact the IT Service Desk at 718-990-5000 (x5000). Information Technology support is available during the academic year, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. through 7:30 p.m.
Please note that for certain types of special events, such as Orientation, Move-in Weekend, Accepted Student Day, Commencement, etc., the office works with the units directly on support for their unique technology requirements. If you have a special event that you believe requires specific technology requirements, please contact the Office of Information Technology a minimum of 10 business days prior to the event so that we have enough time to assess the requirements and work with you on the best path forward for event support. In certain circumstances, it may berecommended for units to engage directly with an outside vendor to assist with support, which incurs an additional cost.
Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please contact the IT Service Desk at 718-990-5000.
