- Students Honored in Employment (SHinE) Nomination Period Open
The Office of Human Resources and Student Employment are pleased to announce the start of the sixth annual student worker recognition award program at St. John’s University. This award program seeks to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who work on campus while attending college. Student workers can be nominated by their supervisors, provided they meet the established eligibility criteria.
Award program eligibility includes: Two, completed, consecutive semesters of employment in the student’s current department; good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0; full-time academic eligibility; and a minimum of 10 work hours per week. Student workers may be classified as Regular or Federal Work-Study, and may be undergraduate or graduate students. Students who are participating in study abroad or an academic internship for the current semester are eligible for nomination, provided they meet the required criteria.
A Selection Committee will review nominations received from supervisors and select up to four (4) award recipients. Committee members will evaluate: 1) the nominees’ qualities that contributed to exceptional performance on the job; and 2) the examples provided that show how the nominees have demonstrated excellence on the job, above and beyond that which was asked or expected (e.g., improved a process, led a project, developed new skills, provided outstanding service, creatively problem-solved issues, etc.) Nominees’ attendance, punctuality, teamwork and cooperation will also be considered.
Each award recipient will receive $500.00 (less applicable taxes) and an invitation to the awards luncheon ceremony with supervisors, managers and special guests. The luncheon will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2020. Semi-finalists will also be invited and recognized at the luncheon.
The nomination period will run January 23 through February 14, 2020. The nomination form will be available on the Supervising Student Workers website beginning January 23, and instructions will be emailed to supervisors in January.
We all know that our student workers are an important part of the University. The SHinE award gives supervisors a chance to nominate their top performers for recognition. Read more about how we are transforming the student employment experience at St. John’s on the CUPA-HR Blog.
