The distinguished speaker for the evening was Val Ackerman, Commissioner of the BIG EAST Conference. During a discussion with Associate Professor David P. In addition, she also provided valuable guidance about the “hard” and “soft” skills necessary to be successful in sport and as a sport leader. After the conclusion of the question and answer session, attendees, including approximately 180 students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni and guests, undertook “speed networking,” whereas the sport industry professionals moved amongst the tables of attendees and spoke about numerous topics including their career, work experiences and employment advice, while also answering questions and providing business cards and information about how to follow-up about employment opportunities. The student Sport Management Association President, Shane Crawford, noted that “Career Night is the perfect opportunity and event for alumni and sport professionals from all over the tristate area come to campus and impart their wisdom on St. John’s University students.”
