On Monday, September 27, 2021, at 9:40 p.m., the Department of Public Safety received a complaint concerning a burglary and theft of money from a student’s room in the Henley Road Residence, located at 172-14 Henley Road in Jamaica Estates, NY. The student reported the theft of approximately $70 from a desk drawer while attending class on the Queens, NY, campus.
Public Safety conducted an investigation and identified another student as being responsible. The investigation revealed that the responsible student entered the victim’s assigned room on September 27 at 3:33 p.m., without permission or authority, and searched a desk drawer, removing the unattended money. This investigation has been closed and the matter has been referred to the Office of Student Conduct.
Public Safety reminds the University community to always secure all doors when leaving a room or office. Valuables should not be left unattended, and the use of a locked box is recommended. If you observe any type of suspicious activity on or off campus, immediately notify 911 and Public Safety at 718-990-5252.
The department also encourages the community to download the University’s free mobile safety app, LiveSafe. LiveSafe allows app users to report tips to Public Safety, virtually escort friends in real-time on a map, place emergency calls, and access other safety resources.
