In today’s readings, Queen Esther cries out to the Lord to deliver the Israelites. As she readies herself to soon entreat the King’s favor in preventing the coming genocide of her people, Esther, in desperation, asks for the Lord’s favor to be upon her and to give "persuasive words in the presence of the Lion."
The world is full of dangers and plots. We often see and hear about the devastation which consumes so many throughout the world. In our own communities, we hear of tragedy and at times feel ill-equipped to deal with the repercussions and harm that lingers as a result.
Esther, a Jewish woman, under immense pressure to intercede and plead the cause of her people, feels that same insecurity and fear. However, she calls out to the Lord, the God who delivers and rescues.
Rather than wallow in her inability, she instead cries to the one who is able to do abundantly more than all we can ask or imagine.
In moments of insecurity and fear, let us be like Esther and call out to the Lord God, who “will not grow tired or weary,” and instead “gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
