- Lenten Reflections 2020: Day 26
Name: John P. Clarke, Esq.
Title: Chair, Department of Law
Department/College: The Peter J. Tobin College of Business
Scripture of the Day: Sam 16:1b, 6–7, 10–13a
I am the light of the world, says the Lord; whoever follows me will have the light of life. The readings for the Fourth Sunday of Lent capture the perennial conflict between the good represented by light and evil represented by darkness. The blind man restored to sight literally has seen the light and acknowledges Jesus as the source. The Pharisees are more concerned with the fact that this good deed was done on the Sabbath and must be from some evil or dark source.
This might be an excellent opportunity during Lent to do a good thing for someone in need, whether physically, financially, or emotionally, so that they can enjoy some light in an otherwise dark world. A kind act done with love can bring light into our world as well.
