“Blessed are those who dwell in your house, O Lord; they never cease to praise you.”
In the reading of today’s Gospel (Lk 2:41-51a), I am reminded of the everyday challenges that come with making decisions that impact our lives.
Joseph had a moral dilemma when Mary was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. Joseph, through faith, obeyed the command of the Lord to take Mary as his wife. Joseph understood his role and privilege in taking care of Mary and Jesus. His openness to God’s call to sacrifice his plans to be of service to Jesus and Mary is truly inspiring.
Lent is an important time to reflect on how we are nurturing faith through fasting, prayer, and service. It is an important time to reflect on our ability to listen to God’s plan for us, especially in times of anxiety, challenges, and uncertainty.
In my Lenten reflection, I am inspired by the patrons of the soup kitchen, where I volunteer on Thursdays, who are able to persevere despite challenging conditions. How might our prayers and actions improve their lives?
I pray, dear Lord, that when I feel constraint by my own circumstances that I look to my faith to understand God’s plan for me. I pray also for those who are suffering, that they, too, may be comforted by God’s love and peace.
