Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.”
Today’s Gospel invites me to reflect on the world in which we live. Jesus says, “Whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave.”
We live in a world where we can get so caught up in our own lives that we treat others with less respect and dignity.
The Gospel reminds us that not only during the season of Lent, but in our everyday lives, we should always strive to be kind.
As President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society on campus and an Ozanam Scholar, I witness firsthand the hardships that people face when living in poverty. The most important lesson I have learned is to uphold the dignity of every person I encounter in my daily life. You truly never know what someone is going through; kindness can always be the answer.
