- Help Identify Emerging Student Leaders
As you may be aware, the University Freshman Center is now officially the Center for Student Success. All first-year support is provided through the center, including tutoring and academic support offered through the University Learning Commons (ULC). Note: The ULC is available to all students.
We need students to fill the following vacancies this fall. If you are aware of a student who could benefit from friendly encouragement and a boost of confidence, help them take the next step to apply for these leadership positions.
Vacancies: Email [email protected] with any questions.
ULC Tutors
The University Learning Commons is actively recruiting undergraduate AND graduate tutors. EPIC Mentors
We need mentors for the EPIC (i.e., Establish relationships, Promote possibilities, Impact direction, and Confirm next steps) mentorship program. This program pairs sophomores, juniors, and seniors with first-year students to offer support as they begin their first year at St. John’s.
There are many benefits to serving as a mentor; for example, it helps build leadership skills, which are essential as students begin to consider their postcollege career. Mentors are required to
- mentor two or three first-year student mentees for one academic year.
- meet with mentees (first-year students) on an ongoing basis in person, via text, email, etc.
- attend—and encourage mentee to attend—relevant programs, meetings, workshops, and activities.
Register to become a mentor by completing this matching survey.
First-Year Seminar (FYS) Peer Leaders
FYS Peer Leaders serve as a resource for students in the First-Year Seminar (formerly known as Discover New York). They also accompany classes on trips into the city to support faculty members with travel logistics. The commitment is one academic semester (Fall 2023); a stipend is offered. Apply now.
