- Foundation Day Mass to be Celebrated on Thursday
The entire St. John’s University community is invited to join in prayer and thanksgiving for the 407th anniversary of the Vincentian charism at the Foundation Day Mass on Thursday, January 25. It was on this date back in 1617 when, while preaching at his parish church in France, St. Vincent de Paul began an adventure in service to the poor—an event that has changed the world for more than 400 years.
Foundation Day marks the beginning of the Congregation of the Mission. As we commemorate that event, we celebrate our Vincentian calling and ask God’s blessings upon all members of our St. John’s University community. We ask God to guide our hearts and minds as we carry out our Catholic and Vincentian mission of caring for the poor, the marginalized, and the strangers in our midst. At the 12:15 p.m. Mass, our colleagues in cohort 13 of the Vincentian Mission Certificate program will graduate.
