- Dr. Bukhari was invited by the Florida International University to speak at KIFCKS Seminar Series.
Dr. Syed Ahmad Chan Bukhari, Asst. Professor & Director Healthcare Informatics in the Collins College of Professional Studies was an invited speaker at the KFSCIS at Florida International University, The KFSCIS seminar was organized by the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences.
During this seminar Dr. Bukhari spoke about the value of specific medical treatments or interventions that can be used to make better decisions and improve health care. In recent years the use of machine learning to analyze and predict Electronic Health Records (EHRs) has profoundly changed the practice of medicine and significantly improved the safety and quality of clinical care. An early prediction of health outcomes, e.g., hospital readmission and patient mortality, is crucial for assessing the severity of illness and adjudicating the value of treatment strategy and resource planning. Dr. Bukhari presented machine learning models to predict 30-days all-cause hospital readmissions considering discharge-to-alternate-care facilities. He also presented Deep FLAIM, his approach to predicting mortality in the paralytic ileus and trauma patients. His results show what he and his team have achieved through experimentations and how such frameworks could potentially be helpful to medical professionals in clinical decision-making to foster safety, quality, and value in clinical care.
