Dr. Brian Harte of St. John's University's Collins College of Professional Studies and Dr. Umesh Kumar from the State University of New York - Canton were co-recipients of a 'Best Paper Award' at the Academy of Business Research conference held October 15-18th, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their paper titled "Electric Power Interruptions and Economic Output for Individual Sectors" examines industry-wise impacts of power outages across the United States and Canada over a 15 year period. The impacts of both severe weather and non-weather related electrical outages across nine industry sectors was discussed. Research findings indicate that the economic output in major sectors suffers most due to weather related electrical interruptions. Moreover, sectors employing a high degree of low-income workers were found to be most vulnerable to experience significant economic losses from power outages overall.
