- Apply for an ACEI Inclusive Teaching Fellowship
All instructional faculty are encouraged to apply to join the second cohort of the Academic Center for Equity and Inclusion (ACEI)’s Inclusive Teaching Fellows initiative. The program is designed to build faculty capacity for supporting an inclusive campus climate through their teaching in classrooms, clinics, studios, or labs on one of St. John’s campuses.
Funds of up to $1,000 will be awarded for projects that assemble small groups of faculty to discuss and learn together about inclusive teaching practices. Funds can support activities scheduled any time during Summer and Fall of 2023. The ACEI Inclusive Teaching Fellows are modeled after a faculty development project at the University of Michigan.
Applications are due by Wednesday, April 12.
As you prepare your application, consider attending the following events:
Register for an online Q&A session on March 30 from 2 to 3 p.m. to learn more about how your project could fit these criteria.
Register to attend a Poster Session and Community Panel on April 3, where last year’s ACEI Inclusive Teaching Fellows will present their work.
Inclusive Teaching Fellows will gather periodically at ACEI as they work on their projects: once to discuss their plans at a kick-off lunch this spring and once in the fall to share major outcomes and further steps for possible publicity and research. ACEI will also interview each of the Inclusive Teaching Fellows during the fall semester to collect key insights, resources, and best practices from the projects to inform faculty development efforts around inclusive teaching moving forward.
ACEI Fellows will present their projects to the larger University community in April 2024. ACEI staff are available to confer about proposals and discuss ways we might support the faculty groups. All faculty/instructors (full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty) are eligible to participate.
Selection Criteria
Funds will be awarded to proposals that most clearly demonstrate the following:
- Clear focus on campus climate and inclusive teaching
- Substantive rationale for how the proposed activities will support inclusive teaching
- Connection to the University’s equity and inclusion goals and the ACEI’s mission (listed under “Who We Are”)
- Likelihood of success in recruiting and retaining faculty participants
- Potential for impact on campus beyond the group’s participants
- Clear connection between the budget and the proposed project
- Proposal guidelines and submission
