- Public Safety Alert
St. John’s University’s Department of Public Safety attempts to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for the entire campus community. Recently, an increased number of larcenies and vehicle thefts in the neighborhood surrounding the Queens campus has been reported to local law enforcement. Please heed the following safety tips:
- Download our free mobile safety app, LiveSafe. LiveSafe allows app users to report tips to Public Safety, virtually escort friends in real-time on a map, place emergency calls, and access other safety resources.
- If you see something, say something. Immediately notify 911 and Public Safety at 718-990-5252 as soon as possible after an incident or if you observe any type of suspicious activity.
- Cell phones and AirPods are distracting. Avoid their use; always be alert and aware of your surroundings on and off campus.
- When possible, travel with a friend and make every effort to travel in populated, well-lit areas. Use the buddy system. Do not walk alone, especially at night.
- Carry only the amount of cash or number of credit cards necessary to make a purchase. Avoid displaying valuables (e.g., jewelry, cell phone, etc.)
- Secure all bicycles to a bicycle rack with a sturdy lock. Kryptonite® U-Locks are available for purchase through Public Safety at a reduced price.
- Do not leave valuables (e.g., cell phone, laptop, iPod, purse, and wallet) unattended at any time—even for just a few seconds.
- If you must leave any items in your car, be sure to place them out of sight in the trunk of your vehicle prior to reaching your destination. Never leave packages in the passenger compartment unattended.
