Paul Torre ’87CBA is the executive vice president of ASTOne, a division of American Stock Transfer and Trust Company (AST). ASTOne provides strategic advisory consulting and proxy solicitation services to public companies and mutual funds.
Torre has 25 years’ experience in the proxy industry. His career started in 1987 at Morrow & Co. LLC, one of the top corporate proxy solicitation firms at the time. In 1989, Torre moved to the mutual fund proxy solicitation firm Shareholder Communications Corporation (now known as Computershare). Under his leadership, Shareholder Communications quickly grew from a small group conducting one-off proxy campaigns to the leading provider of mutual fund proxy solicitation. Torre has been responsible for delivering innovative solicitation solutions and services to the industry and has extensive experience with ETFs, closed-end and open-end shareholder meetings, and strategic mergers and acquisitions.
After Shareholder Communications, Torre cofounded Mediant Communications and then joined ADP Investor Communication Services (now known as Broadridge Financial Solutions). In 2003, he cofounded the mutual fund proxy group at The Altman Group, a corporate proxy and bankruptcy firm at the time. The Altman Group was purchased by AST in 2011 and the fund business was rebranded as AST Fund Solutions. In 2013 and under Torre’s leadership, AST combined its mutual fund proxy, corporate proxy, and ownership intelligence groups to form ASTOne. In 2014, AST acquired D.F. King & Co. and folded its mutual fund and corporate proxy business into ASTOne.
Torre graduated from St. John’s University with a B.A. in finance. He is married with three daughters and is involved with a number of charities, including LaGuardia Community College, Citizen Schools, the Mark C. Healy Scholarship Fund, and HeartShare Human Services of New York, for which he serves as chairman of the board. He speaks regularly at industry panels and conferences.
