Kennedy Love-Green ‘17CPS
Determined to make helping others the centerpiece of her St. John’s experience, Ozanam Scholar Kennedy Love-Green ’17CPS has traveled to service sites around the globe, becoming a citizen of the world in the process.
“What I learned,” Kennedy reflected, “is that global citizenship means love.”
Through the Ozanam Scholars Program, Kennedy and others visited Italy, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, and other locations in search of solutions to real-world social justice issues.
While in Italy, she taught English to members of a local community. “The women we helped wanted to know as much about me as I did about them,” she said. “We have a lot more in common than what separates us.”
In Puerto Rico, she encountered extreme poverty and worked with a cohort of 20 students who planted community gardens, painted murals, and served in soup kitchens. In Ecuador, she picked up a sledgehammer and helped make room for a Shuar community to build a town hall.
“Global citizenship is more than just words,” said Kennedy, a television and film major. “We must work together to make the world a better place.”
