Allison Raich Potar ‘07Pharm.D.
"I'm the team's drug expert for patients and their families. I love my role because I really get to know them."

A self-described “people person,” Allison Raich Potar is a Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator for Glen Cove Hospital, NY, part of the Northwell Health network. Being involved in patient care is “what I love most,” she declared.
Ms. Potar also loved her time in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at St. John’s. She originally wanted to teach pharmacy, but her professors encouraged her to gain experience in practice before pursuing a position in academia. Ms. Potar completed her post-graduation residency at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. “It was the best of both worlds,” she said. “I was part of an interdisciplinary team. I got to teach members about the medications, and I was there to help the patients understand them, too.”
After six years at Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream, NY, Ms. Potar accepted an administrative role as Manager of Medication Safety and Quality at Northwell. She returned to Glen Cove because she “missed interacting with patients.” Her responsibilities as pharmacy coordinator include advising patients in the hospital’s rehabilitation units. “I love my role because I really get to know them,” she said. She also mentors current St. John's students who serve as interns. “There’s nothing more rewarding,” she said.
