Thinking about transferring to St. Johns University? We get it—making the leap from your current school brings both excitement and questions. Will you find your place in our community? Can you afford it? Good news: as a transfer student joining us in Fall 2025, you have access to scholarships designed specifically for students like you who are continuing their educational journey with us.

These transfer scholarships can significantly reduce your costs, making your St. John’s degree more affordable than you might think. In this article, we walk you through all your options so you can see exactly how our financial support can help you achieve your goals.

1) Transfer Distinction Award

Already earned your associate degree or about to finish it? The Transfer Distinction Award is designed for students like you who’ve put in the hard work at your current school and are ready to take the next step at St. John’s.

Worth $23,000 each year, this award can significantly reduce your tuition costs while you complete your bachelor’s degree. You can keep receiving this award for up to three years as long as you stay enrolled full time and maintain good academic standing. That’s potentially $69,000 toward your education!

2) University Transfer Merit Scholarships

If you’ve completed at least 12 college credits with a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher, you could qualify for up to $26,000 annually in merit scholarships. These scholarships recognize the academic foundation you’ve already built and help make your transition to St. John’s more affordable.

Maintain a 3.0 GPA at St. John’s, and you can renew this scholarship for up to three years. That means less stress about finances and more focus on your studies and campus experience.

3) Phi Theta Kappa Members Scholarship

Are you a Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) member? Your academic excellence hasn’t gone unnoticed! As an active PTK member, you’ll receive an additional $1,000 per year ($4,000 total) on top of your other scholarships.

Simply provide documentation of your PTK membership and maintain a 3.0 GPA at St. John’s. It’s our way of acknowledging your continued commitment to academic excellence as you move from your community college to our University.

4) Yearly Service Scholarships

If your parent is a police officer, firefighter, or military member—whether in full-time active service, retired, or killed in the line of duty—St. John’s wants to honor their dedication to public service by helping fund your education with our Yearly Service Scholarships. These $2,000 annual scholarships, available until you complete a bachelor’s degree (up to $8,000 total), can make a meaningful difference in your educational costs.

The application process is straightforward—just indicate your parent’s occupation on your application. In limited cases, the school might request added proof of occupation if questions arise.

5) Campus Visit and Deadline Scholarships

Want to earn money toward your education just by exploring campus? Attend an Accepted Student Day, Open House, campus tour, or Spotlight Event until May 1, 2025, and you’ll receive a $250 scholarship.

Plus, if you complete your application, submit all required documents early, and pay your enrollment deposit by the deadline, you’ll receive a one-time $500 Future Johnny Award. This money goes directly to your StormCard, making your textbook purchases more affordable during your first semester.

6) Stay on Long Island Initiative for Local Transfers

Transferring from Nassau Community College  or Suffolk County Community College? You might qualify for partial or full tuition coverage through our Stay on Long Island Initiative. This program helps local students continue their education close to home without the burden of excessive costs.

Awards are based on your financial need and academic performance, potentially making your St. John’s degree dramatically more affordable.
