Office of Employee Belonging

You Belong Here!

Belonging is

  • being seen, heard, valued, respected, included, and engaged;

  • feeling your contribution is welcome; and

  • having a sense of purpose within the organization.

HR Employee Engagement

The Office of Employee Belonging is a continued expression of St. John’s University’s mission and its commitment to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

As a Catholic and Vincentian university, St. John’s upholds its commitment to providing a workplace and learning community that recognizes the intrinsic worth of all individuals.

Our Mission

To create an inclusive workplace where our employees feel that they belong.

Our Vision

By focusing on our employees, we work toward creating a workplace culture of belonging.

Our Goals

  • To focus on our employees.

  • To deliver on our mission.

  • To intentionally identify and address our employees and workplace culture needs at the individual, team, and institutional level.

  • To help create an inclusive ecosystem (“workplace culture”) where our talent feel they belong.

Our Approach

  • We use community-centered, data-informed approaches to advance the work of equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • We work together.
  • We work with deep integrity, transparency, and intentionality.
  • We include all employees in our efforts.

Our Efforts

Informed by employee feedback and experiences, the Office of Employee Belonging intentionally partners with University units to improve internal systems and policies, and host programs that center on employee needs.
