Dear St. John’s Families,
Welcome to the first edition of the Parent Association Family
Connection! The college years can be a very exciting time for your
students; however they can also be filled with many questions. We
recognize the important role that you play in the lives of your
sons and daughters and view parents as partners in education.
Therefore, your relationship with the Parent Association will be
essential as we work to build strong support systems and learning
communities that will allow our students to grow socially,
academically, and spiritually.
The goal of the Parent Association Family Connection is to
assist you in supporting your child. The authors are St. John’s
administrators who work with your sons and daughters on a daily
basis. The topics in this edition include academic
information from the University Freshman Center, transitioning to
on-campus living, tips for dealing with a homesick child,
information on joining a student organization, and identifying
seasonal challenges your child may be facing. We hope that this
information will be informative and helpful.
If you are in need of additional assistance, please contact
Katelynn Coy with the Queens campus Parent Association at (718)
990-7629 or Kimberly Palmieri with the Staten Island campus Parent
Association at (718) 390-4345 or encourage your son or daughter to
speak with a student affairs administrator.
Sincerely,
Rev. James Maher, C.M., D. Min
Vice President for Student
Affairs
