Multicultural Affairs/Global Awareness Project

Multicultural Affairs strives to foster a culturally pluralistic living and learning environment in which differences and similarities are recognized, understood and appreciated.  Through a wide variety of cultural awareness and heritage celebration programming, academic lectures, diversity education, global awareness initiatives, student organizations and other community engagement activities, we hope to encourage civic and social responsibility within our communities and to facilitate the self-actualizing growth and development of all students.

Through various social justice initiatives, we seek to engage the community in dialogue about human values, human rights and community development.  One such initiative is the Global Awareness Project (GAP), designed to provide students with knowledge, skills and tools needed to be responsible global citizens.   In addition to collaborative programming, students get the opportunity to dialogue with international representatives from the United Nations and other non-governmental organizations during events pertaining to the UN Millennium Development Goals (UNMDG), eight goals developed in hopes of eradicating extreme poverty around the world by the year 2015.  Participation in these events will prepare students for participatory citizenship in a complex, diverse, and globally-interconnected world.
