Schools on Staten Island

The Staten Island Campus of St. John's University provides degree offerings from four of the University schools.

St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
St. John’s College (SJC) is the liberal arts and sciences college of the Staten Island campus, located on the first floor of Flynn Hall (Room 102).  We offer programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science, as well as the Associate degree of Liberal Arts.

Earning a degree in the liberal arts and sciences enables students to choose from a wide array of career paths.  Students who are undecided about what they would like to major in are certainly welcome into our college, and we even have programs specifically designed with those students in mind.  Students who are interested in law, or medicine, or even business – are all welcome to any of our majors.

Undergraduate students are quite often concerned with the question: “What can I do with this major when I graduate?”  This is a very common question because the liberal arts and sciences provide students with a broad learning experience, and a single major can translate into countless career opportunities.  The communication and critical thinking skills that one gains from being a liberal arts and sciences major are exactly the types of skills employers hope to find in their newly hired employees, in any field of work.   In other words, one’s major doesn’t always correlate with a job title – like it would in a trade school.  Instead, the opportunities are more diverse, and students who graduate with a liberal arts and sciences degree work in every career field imaginable!

During the Freshman year, students are all advised by our hard-working and knowledgeable staff in the University Freshman Center (101 Flynn Hall).  During this time, students are encouraged to consider all possibilities for their majors and their careers, and are welcome at any time to stop into the SJC office, right across the hall, to find out more about the possibilities that a degree in the liberal arts and sciences has to offer.  Students may choose any of the majors, minors, and special programs listed below.  Students who choose to major in another college are also welcome to choose any of these minors or specials programs, or even to have a double major.
