More About Speaker
In July 2007, Professor Shaun R. Harper joined the higher
education management program faculty at the University of
Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Education. He also holds an
appointment in the Center for Africana Studies at Penn. Dr.
Harper maintains an active research agenda that examines race and
gender in higher education, the effects of college environments on
student behaviors and outcomes, and gains associated with
educationally purposeful student engagement.
Dr. Harper is the author of more than 40 peer-reviewed journal
articles, book chapters and other academic publications. His
books and monographs include Responding to the Realities of Race on
Campus (Jossey-Bass, 2007), Using Qualitative Methods in
Institutional Assessment (Jossey-Bass, 2007), Creating Inclusive
Campus Environments for Cross-Cultural Learning and Student
Engagement (NASPA, 2008), and Student Engagement in Higher
Education: Theoretical Perspectives and Practical Approaches for
Diverse Populations (Routledge, 2008).
He earned his bachelor’s degree in Education from Albany State,
a historically Black university in Georgia. His master’s
degree in College Student Affairs Administration and Ph.D. in
higher education administration are from Indiana University.
