May 2008 Check-Out Procedures
The end of the spring semester is drawing near. We, the
Office of Residence Life, would like all residents to have a
successful end to the academic year. Below you will find important
May checkout procedures.
The Residence Halls will close at 10:00
a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2008.
Every resident must check out by the above date and time, unless
they have received an extension approved by the Office of Residence
Life.
Note
Vehicles are not permitted on the sidewalks or lawn area of the
Residential Village.
Check-Out Procedures
- You must check out of the residence halls no later than 24
hours after yourlast final exam or by 10:00 am on Thursday, May
15th.
- Residents must schedule a checkout appointment with their
Resident Assistant at least 24 hours in advance of expected
departure.
- Appointments are mandatory, and must be scheduled between 9:00
a.m. and 9:00 p.m. If you need to checkout at any other time, speak
to your RA
- If you need to check out on Thursday, May 15, your appointment
time must be scheduled before 9:00 a.m.
- Clean your suite, room, and bathroom(s). The suite/room should
be returned to its original condition.
- Remove all garbage from your suite/room. Place garbage in
the trash receptacles provided outside or in the garbage room on
your floor.
- Do not leave garbage in the hallway.
- Place furniture in an orderly fashion.
- All personal furniture including carpets and rugs must be
removed.
- Pack and remove all of your belongings BEFORE your check out
appointment or have them packed and placed in the suite area.
- Property that remains in the suite after check out will be
discarded.
- Remember to be on time for your checkout appointment.
Checkout Appointment
Return your keys to your Resident Assistant and sign your
Check-in/Check-out Agreement Cover Letter and Room Condition Report
(RCR).
If there are damages in your suite, room, or bathroom(s) that
you are taking responsibility for, please indicate these damages on
the RCR, sign your name next to the damage(s), and sign the
RCR.
If no one takes responsibility for damages every resident in the
suite/room will be charged.
Once you have checked out, all of your belongings must be
removed. You will not be permitted to enter your suite/room
after you have checked out and returned your keys.
Damage and Improper Checkout
Charges
Failure to comply with the Check-Out Procedures stated above will
result in a $75 improper checkout charge.
After the Residence Halls close, the Residence Director with a
member of Facilities Services will use the Room Condition Report
that was completed by the Resident Assistant and inspect all
suites, rooms, and bathrooms. They will verify damages stated on
the form and may also record additional damages that are not stated
on the RCR.
- Bedroom damages will be assessed to occupants of that
room.
- Suite damages will be assessed to all occupants of the
suite.
- Floor damages (includes hallway and lounge area) will be
assessed to occupants of that floor.
- Building damages will be assessed to the occupants of that
building.
- Charges will be assessed for cleaning suites, rooms, and
bathrooms.
- Lock changes will be assessed individually.
- An itemized damage bill will be mailed to your home in
June.
- If charges are assessed, the amount will be added to your
University Account and then deducted from the $250 damage
deposit. The remaining amount will stay on your account as a
credit.
- If the damages assessed exceed $250, the additional amount will
be added to your account and you will receive a bill from the
Bursar Office.
