The Common Hour is a regularly scheduled block of time during
which no classes are held and members of the University community
are, therefore, available to share in other activities. The goal is
to promote involvement in the community life of the University.
Students can schedule meetings of clubs, faculty can hold meetings,
and students, administrators, and faculty together can participate
in lectures, brown bag lunches, or any other events that they might
wish to develop.
The Tuesday and Thursday class schedule will be altered to
include a Common Hour from 12:10 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The only
exceptions are laboratory courses in the sciences or graphic arts;
courses which are scheduled in non-standard meeting times, and all
courses in the School of Law.
We look forward, as we hope you do, to the opportunities for
broader participation in the life of St. John's which this new
schedule will foster.
