What is a Physician Assistant
At a time when our nation's hospitals, clinics, and private practices lack an adequate number of licensed medical doctors, physician assistants are more vital than ever.

Physician assistants are respected professionals who are specially trained to practice medicine under the supervision of a licensed medical doctor. For example, physician assistants are entrusted with the following responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive physical examinations of patients and compile patient histories and diagnoses.
  • Order or administer such diagnostic tests as x-rays, electrocardiograms and laboratory tests.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures, including injections, immunizations, managing infection and suturing and wound care.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans.

Professionals with a Plan
Physician Assistants instruct and counsel patients regarding compliance with therapeutic regimens, family planning, emotional difficulties and health maintenance. They also may have training in a medical specialty and be a designated anesthesiologist assistant or surgeon assistant.
