Outreach Training Institute

The College of Professional Studies at St. John's University is pleased to offer an articulation program with the Outreach Training Institute.

Students who successfully complete the CASAC 350 Hour Diploma program will be entitled to 30 undergraduate credits at St. John's University subject to the following guidelines:

  • Students must qualify for admission to the baccalaureate degree program in Liberal Arts Studies offered by the College of Professional Studies at St. John's University.
  • Credits awarded by the College of Professional Studies are not transferable.
  • Credits are based in the instructional component of the Outreach Training Institute program; additional credits may be earned by portfolio assessment.

Program Overview
The CASAC Diploma program consists of nine course modules taught over 11 consecutive months, at various OTI locations in Queens, Brentwood and Greenpoint. The program objectives include:

  • education and course work necessary to qualify for the New York State Office Of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) C.A.S.A.C. credential exam
  • meeting specific needs of all students; whether beginning their careers, or experienced practitioners seeking to explore the special discipline of working with substance abusers
  • providing a strong theoretical foundation, practical counseling skills field experience
  • assisting eligible students with supervised internship positions within an OASAS approved treatment unit of Outreach Project
