Queens, NY— On September 28th, the Department of Accounting and Taxation at The Peter J. Tobin College of Business hosted “Meet the Mid-Sized Firms” in Marillac Terrace. Approximately 100 accounting and taxation students were in attendance along with 13 panelists from mid-sized accounting firms.

Craig Fine, a Partner with the firm Biscotti, Toback & Company, was a Panelist and the Moderator of the event. Other panelists included: Bill Fischer of Grassi & Company; Jerome Hehir, Holtz, Rubenstein & Reminick; John Ingrassi and Allison Lane of J.H. Cohn; Ray Chang of Margolin, Winer & Evens; Marc Koppelman of Marks, Paneth & Shron; Patricia D’Alton of O’Connor, Davies, Munns & Dobbins, LLP; Arthur Drucker of Salibello & Broder, LLP; Joseph Boyce of Schwartz & Company, LLP; Kenneth Bagner of Sobel & Company, LLC; and Andy Cohen and David Rubenstein of Weiser, LLP.

The “Meet the Mid-Sized Firms” was originally established by the Department of Accounting and Taxation in 2004 to assist students in their understanding of the various employment opportunities available to them after college, and to allow them the opportunity to speak one-on-one with professionals from mid-sized accounting firms.

Representatives of the above mentioned firms were asked to comment on and give their views on issues including the type of training offered to new employees by their firm, what their individual firm looks for in a new employee, the various career paths offered, and the quality of the work environment in their firm.

The discussion was followed by a Q&A session for students as well as an open forum for students to individually and informally meet with representatives from the firms.

One representative from each of the five accounting student organizations, including Beta Alpha Psi, the National Accounting Honor Society; NABA, the National Association of Black Accountants; ALPFA, the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting; and the Accounting Society; introduced themselves to the members of the participating accounting firms and will be inviting these members to speak individually at their upcoming organization meetings.
