Award
The award consists of a $17,000 stipend and an institutional award
in lieu of tuition and fees of $7,500. The length of the award is
three years.
Application Deadline
The tentative application deadline is Nov. 16.
Qualifications
Applicants should be a senior in college, and a US citizen or
national.
Applicants should be a member of one of the following
groups:
- Alaska Native (Eskimo or Aleut)
- Black/African American
- Mexican American/Chicano,Chicana
- Native American Indian
- Native Pacific Islander (Polynesian/Micronesian)
- Puerto Rican
Applicants should be planning to enroll in a research based
Ph.D. or Sc.D. program. Students should desire a teachign and
research career at the college or university level and have not
previously earned a doctoral degree.

- short essays
- plan of graduate study
- undergraduate GPA form
- transcripts
- GRE scores
- four letters of reference
History
The Ford Foundation provides fellowships to minorities in an
attempt to increase the number of underrepresented minorities on
the nation's college and university faculties, to enhance diversity
on campuses, and to address the persisting effects of past
discrimiantion. The fellowship identifies individuals with
demosntrated ability and provides them with the opportunity to
engage in graduate study leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
or Doctor of Science (Sc.D.).
