St. John's University School of Risk Management Hosts Annual "Friends, Educators and Students" Reception in Bermuda

New York, N.Y. (May 24, 2007) -
St. John’s University’s School of Risk Management (SRM), a
division of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, will host its
Fifth Annual “Gathering of Friends, Educators and Students” on
Thursday, May 31st at the Coral Beach and Tennis Club in Hamilton,
Bermuda. This event is made possible through the generosity
of Joseph Smetana, alumnus of The College of Insurance.
Invited to the dinner are industry and government leaders, key
alumni in Bermuda, guidance counselors and current and prospective
students and their parents.
“We have close and long-standing partnerships within the
corporate, education and government communities in Bermuda,” said
Dr. Ellen Thrower, Executive Director, SRM, and former President of
The College of Insurance. “This annual event provides us with
the opportunity to thank our friends and supporters for their
generosity over the years and to welcome our newest Bermudian
students who are coming to St. John’s in the fall.”
Guests attending this year’s event will include; Dr. Duranda
Greene, President, Bermuda College; and Dr. Larita Alford, Vice
President & Chief Academic Officer of Bermuda College.
Also attending from St. John’s University will be Dr. Ellen
Thrower, Executive Director, School of Risk Management, Insurance
and Actuarial Science, Mr. Albert J. Beer, the Michael J. Kevany/XL
Visiting Professor in Insurance and Actuarial Science Practice and
other members of the SRM team.
About the School of Risk Management:
In June 2001, The College of Insurance merged with St. John’s
University, becoming the School of Risk Management (SRM) of The
Peter J. Tobin College of Business. Located in downtown Manhattan’s
